A bit about us….. My name is Cindy Allen. My husband Rod & I have 3 boys, Brandon, Dylon, & Jeffrey. We are located in the flat lands of Dexter, Missouri. My husband has operated his own transmission repair shop since 2000. With us being self employed, I have all the time in each day to spend with the Danes & my puppies. They are my #1 priority…. of course after my family. We have owned several breeds of dogs as pets….akita, german shepherd, beagle, min pen, great Pyrenees & some mixes but none have ever touched our hearts like the wonderful Great Dane. The Dane is the first & only breed that we have ever bred & I must say we are hooked! I consider myself as a hobby breeder. This is NOT a business for me. My Danes are a part of my family. I DO NOT dispose of them when they can no longer produce puppies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hazel is my first retiree. She retired in April 2009 (spayed) with Feb. 2009 being the last time she had a litter. Hazel will always & forever live here at Great MaDane….this is her home plain & simple. Now this is not to be confused with my co-owned Danes. Tinker was (spayed June 2009) co-owned with some friends of ours. She is now retired & lives with The DeBoard’s full time in Piedmont Mo. Schatzi is another co-owned Dane. She is my mom’s girl that we plan to breed this winter. We carry high expectations for the title of a ‘Good Breeder’ & I sure hope you do also. Anyone can breed Danes BUT not just anyone can do it right! Here are just a few things that I think makes a good breeder: • Very knowledgeable about the breed. • Will instruct you on the proper way to feed/exercise your Dane. • Will be there for you no matter what the age of your puppy. • Willing to take the puppy back if you ever decide to ‘get rid’ of the puppy or AT LEAST help you find a new home for the puppy. • Willing to establish a good relationship with you. This is very important. Your breeder should be someone you can turn to if/when you have problems with your puppy whether it be with housebreaking, chewing, or grooming. • Honesty…..this is very important from both sides. A breeder MUST be honest with the new puppy owners & vise versa. You MUST be honest with your breeder especially when it comes to resolving problems with your puppy. The breeder will not be able to fully help you with the problem if you are withholding important information to the possible cause. FYI….Danes are not for everyone! These guys are so big & people just really don’t realize this. And when new owners keep putting off training they end up with an unruly 100 lbs dog by the time they are 6 to 7 months old. But if you do your homework from the start watch out……these guys are very addicting! |
